Public transportation, parking and taxis

Public transportation

The public transportation network in Budapest is managed by the company Budapesti Közlekedési Központ (BKK), with very frequent and extensive day & night services.

Tickets and passes are available:
  • in their ticket vending machines (TVM)
  • in their customer service centres
  • in their smart phone application "Budapest GO"

Nearest tram stop's name is: "Albertfalva, kitérő" from where you can access the whole city hasslefree.
  • Tram 17 goes to the city centre of Buda and then to Nord-Buda (Déli railway station, Széll Kálmán tér, Castle district, Margaret bridge & Island)
  • Tram 47 goes to the city centre of Pest (Deák Ferenc tér, Market Hall, Liberty bridge, Gellért Spa, National Museum)
  • Tram 41 goes to the Danube bank and than Nord-Buda (Aquincum, Margaret Bridge & Island, Chainbridge, Castle district)
  • Tram 56 goes to West-Buda side (Castle district, Széll Kálmán tér, Hűvösvölgy)

Tickets:
  • in case you are having single tickets, don't forget to validate them after boarding! Be careful with the very old red ticket validators: you have to insert the ticket from its top and pull the arm towards you to punch the ticket. Other machines are operating automatically. A new single ticket should be validated if you change the line.
  • if you are using the e-tickets or e-pass via Budapest GO application, please scan the QR code of the vehicle next to its doors via the app.

Taxi service in Budapest
  • taxi service is quite expensive in general in comparison with other european capitals
  • some of the drivers are not members of any company, you will find a sign of this on their doors (independent taxi service provider), it worth to avoid them
  • licensed and suggested taxi companies are: Taxify, City Taxi, Budapest Taxi and 6x6 Taxi.
  • all of the drivers should accept credit card and need to give you a receipt

Public parking in Budapest

  • most of the time it is quite challenging to find a free parking space in the city
  • public parking within the greater city center is payable between 8 AM and 8 PM or in some cases untill 10PM
  • the first 10 minutes of parking is free of chage, as long you are searching for a parking ticket machine
  • parking could be paid only by cash and with Hungarian Forints (HUF) only
  • parking in front of our flat is free of charge (May 2022)
